Joe Hopkins, Partner & COO
Growing up in a family house painting and siding business on the east coast, I somehow always knew that I would end up working in the trades because of my love for creating something with my hands. After moving to the Seattle in the early 90s, I had my hands in several trades and eventually landed in residential construction full time in 1996. I started as an apprentice and worked my way up through the ranks, ending up as a Master Carpenter with a well established company.
Within a year of becoming a Master Carpenter I was given an opportunity to try my hand in remodeling sales and project management. I took this position very seriously and made it my top priority to bring in jobs on budget, while at the same time developing a trusting relationship with each of my customers. I pride myself in the fact that over 60% of my personal business every year is repeat customers or recommendations from previous customers. Year after year I honed my skills in remodeling sales, project management and customer relationships, all the while looking towards the future of having my own company.
Prior to starting Cornerstone Construction Group I was employed by one of the most successful and respected residential remodelers in the Greater Seattle area for over 11 years While at this company, several of my projects won local, state and national awards. Although these awards were an honor I continue to realize that my greatest honor is to have a client call me for the next project on their home. To me this means that I, my team of carpenters and subcontractors are doing things right. My constant pursuit of great customer service, quality craftsmanship and leadership is what finally pushed me to start Cornerstone Construction Group.
Today, I am married to the love of my life for more than 16 years and we have 3 beautiful children. I enjoy coaching my daughter’s soccer team, grilling or smoking food on any one of my three grills and spending time at the beach with my family. All in all, relationships are what mean the most to me in life… whether it be my wife, my children, my extended family, my friendships, my customers or my customers that become friends, all of these relationships feed my soul.

I've been in construction almost my whole life although I didn't plan to make it my career. As life unfolded after college I guess I sort of just fell into it. My dad was a very successful general contractor specializing in developing retirement communities. I started working for him in 1982 when I was in junior high and continued to work for him throughout high school and college.
After college I started buying and flipping houses in the Portland area. By this time it was clear that a career in construction was a destination and not merely a stop along the way. Wanting a broader range of experience I joined the Carpenters Union and went through the Union Apprenticeship Program. After getting a taste of commercial construction I realized I belonged in residential; particularly remodeling.
For the next 5 years I developed my skills in remodeling working for various local contractors. I strongly believe this has given me a depth of field experience not every construction manager can claim. I transitioned into construction sales, estimating and project management about 9 years ago and have since built everything from multi-million dollar custom homes to historical renovations to your run-of-the-mill kitchen and bath projects.
I’m completely client focused and appreciate a team approach. As an estimator and project manager I have a really good sense of what things cost and pride myself in bringing that to the table early on as decisions are made. I enjoy the design process and love working with talented design professionals. I'm also good at value engineering and offering suggestions for materials and construction methodologies that won't compromise design yet helps hit budgeting objectives.
In the past 9 years I’ve worked for 3 great companies but now in my 40’s I feel like its time to take all that I’ve learned and create a company that reflects my values, personality and goals. I’m privileged to have met my 2 partners who closely share those values and priorities thus; Cornerstone Construction Group has been created. Our passion is building beautiful projects and excellent client relationships in a fun atmosphere.
At home I share my life with my bride of 23 years, my 13 year old son, and my 2 daughters ages 14 and 16. I cant leave out my other furry and feathered kids; Tucker our Golden-doodle, the worlds best dog and Featherby our Green Cheeked Conure. When not working we love to camp, kayak, take RV trips and travel to Mexico and Africa to work with widows and orphans. I'm also passionate about social justice and serve as director of Justice and Mercy Ministries at my church.

I grew up in a family of three generations of contractors and hold an MBA from the University of San Francisco and a BS in Marketing from Drexel University. In addition, I hold a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. My background includes: marketing, corporate finance, capital markets, operations, human resources, technology and administration.
I have over 25 years of experience working for various companies from mom and pop small businesses to NASDAQ 100 and Fortune 100 companies. In 1998 I started JS Electric Inc. in San Francisco California with my husband Jeff. We are very proud that both before and after moving to the Seattle area JS Electric has been a profitable and successful company which continues to grow almost exclusively by repeat and referral business.
My responsibilities are financial oversight, administration, technology and human resources. I also focus on production and operations systems and processes and partner with Matt on technology and marketing. My ultimate vision for technology implementation is to support sales and production and link the office and field in new and innovative ways leveraging the iPad platform.
To me remodeling is more than "sticks and bricks" remodeling should be a deeply personal expression of one’s inner vision for what makes a peaceful and fulfilling place to be. I believe that what we do makes a positive difference in our client’s lives giving them joy and a better quality of life.
